Busan Leads the 'Boom'... Hyundai Motor Expo Video Surpasses 100 Million Views

Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 19th that the domestic and international views of the Busan World Expo bid promotional video series, created together with foreigners residing in Korea, have surpassed 100 million. The key gateway for the 2030 World Expo bid draws attention as it coincides with the International Bureau of Expositions (BIE) General Assembly held in Paris.

The videos, produced to showcase Busan's competitiveness and vision as a candidate city for hosting the World Expo, consist of two series totaling 37 episodes. The total views exceeded 100 million on the 18th, just over three months after the first video was uploaded. The company expects that the videos will help build consensus for Busan’s bid at the 172nd BIE General Assembly, which begins on the 20th in Paris.

At this General Assembly, a report on the on-site inspection results of the candidate cities will be circulated, along with the 4th competitive presentation and the official reception for bidding candidate countries. Ahead of the BIE inspection team’s visit to Korea in March, Hyundai Motor Group released 19 videos of the first series on social networking services (SNS). During the inspection period, the second series of 18 videos was introduced worldwide.

The first series features various citizens living in Busan directly promoting Busan’s capabilities in 15 BIE member country languages. The total views reached 56.45 million. The second series features foreigners residing in Korea from 17 BIE member countries introducing Busan’s hosting intentions in their own languages. Of the total 101.15 million views, 70.44 million were from overseas, accounting for about 70% of the total. The videos actively garnered consensus with over 111,000 ‘likes’ and about 12,000 comments.

Earlier in April, the company also screened the promotional videos on large LED billboards in Gwanghwamun, a place with heavy foot traffic, to rally enthusiasm for the bid. Additionally, to spread consensus overseas, they produced 1-minute short-form videos in each member country’s language. Among the 35 short-form videos for individual countries, the most viewed was the Peru edition, with a total of 2.93 million views. This video features Busan-born model Kim So-jin, who expresses empathy for Peru’s efforts to build the Chinchero New Airport to connect cultural heritage sites like Machu Picchu to the world, while promoting Busan’s vision.

Other videos with high view counts include Libya (2.3 million), Paraguay (2.08 million), and Chile (2.06 million). Besides the bid promotional videos, the company has released various content using SNS platforms such as YouTube and Instagram.
