Samsung Electronics announced on the 18th that it will screen the movie "Elemental" in 4K HDR (High Dynamic Range) quality on its Cinema LED screen "Onyx." Elemental is a new animated film from Disney·Pixar.

Samsung Electronics stated that through technical collaboration with Pixar Animation Studios, it created Elemental as exclusive 4K HDR content for Onyx and distributed it to theaters worldwide. HDR allows for brighter and clearer image quality compared to the existing projector-type SDR (Standard Dynamic Range).

Onyx is the world's first Cinema LED screen unveiled by Samsung Electronics. Traditional beam projectors use a projection method that projects the image on the film onto a screen. Onyx directly displays the image on the screen itself. This results in uniform image expression and high color reproduction.

Samsung Electronics said, "Onyx supports 4K (4096X2160) resolution and HDR quality, and as a self-emissive LED display, it achieves high contrast ratio to clearly express black. The luminance (screen brightness) is about six times brighter than existing projector types, reaching up to 300 nits."

Through Samsung Electronics' Cinema LED screen Onyx, you can now enjoy Disney·Pixar's new release in 4K HDR (High Dynamic Range) quality.

Onyx is the first movie screen in the world, aside from projectors, to receive certification for the Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) digital cinema standard. Samsung Electronics introduced the world's first Cinema LED screen at Lotte Cinema World Tower in Jamsil, Seoul. It has supplied Onyx screens to over 120 theaters worldwide, including CGV Wangsimni.

Pixar Studios plans to expand HDR content mastering, starting with the Elemental Onyx exclusive content mastering.
