Upstage, located in Gwanggyo, Gyeonggi-do, is a leading company recently emerging in the field of generative artificial intelligence (AI). The chatbot 'Asukup,' based on ChatGPT, introduced by this company, is rapidly increasing its user base since its launch. Asukup incorporates technology that combines OCR (Optical Character Recognition) and ChatGPT.

On the 15th, Park Yoon-kyu, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, visited Asukup. Due to growing concerns about risks triggered by ChatGPT, the visit aimed to promote the importance of AI ethics and reliability compliance by visiting industrial sites. Starting with a visit to Upstage, a representative generative AI company currently in the spotlight, he plans to sequentially visit leading AI companies in various fields such as healthcare, manufacturing, education, transportation, and finance.

During the visit to Upstage, they freely exchanged opinions on the company's efforts to mitigate hallucination phenomena, which are pointed out as a problem of generative AI, and the difficulties in spreading AI ethics and reliability. Hallucination refers to the phenomenon where AI models confidently provide answers that are not factual as if they were true. Lee Hwal-seok, CTO of Upstage, stated, “With the advent of the generative AI era such as ChatGPT, discussions on AI ethics and reliability are accelerating, and we will continue efforts to secure ethics and reliability essential for the development of AI technology through various initiatives.”

Vice Minister Park Yoon-kyu said, “As AI rapidly spreads into industries and our daily lives, securing ethics and reliability at all stages from technology development to utilization has become a prerequisite for industrial development,” adding, “I will visit industrial sites to listen to difficulties and support needs so that domestic companies can proactively secure AI ethics and reliability in their products and services, and take the lead in spreading AI ethics and reliability.”
