On the 10th, hail accompanied by strong winds and heavy rain struck parts of Jinan-gun, causing damage to several farms, which are currently undergoing restoration. As of 8 a.m. on the 12th, damage was reported over an area of 41 hectares in Jinan-gun. The crops affected include chili peppers, watermelons, and tobacco shoots.

In particular, the hailstorm during the fruit ripening period caused mechanical damage such as breakage of fruits, branches, leaves, and new shoots. There is also concern about pest and disease damage due to infections at the damaged sites.

On the 13th, more than 30 executives and employees from Jeonbuk Nonghyup and Jinan Nonghyup visited the Ancheon-myeon area of Jinan-gun, which suffered severe damage, to help with the recovery efforts. They first visited watermelon, tobacco, and perilla fields to carry out restoration activities such as removing crops damaged by hail.

Chairman Kim stated, “Farmers have suffered severe damage due to abnormal weather during a critical growth period for crops. Nonghyup will consider supplying growth-supporting nutrients and various practical measures to aid in recovery.”

Branch Manager Byeon said, “Although the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation and local Nonghyup joined forces to assist with the labor, it was only a part of what is needed. We will do our best to help farmers return to their daily lives as soon as possible.”
