Visiting Onion Farms Facing Labor Shortage, Over 40 People Sweat Together
Changnyeong-gun in Gyeongnam Province, the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation, and Upo Nonghyup joined forces on the 14th to help farmers struggling with labor shortages during the spring onion harvest season by participating in a joint rural labor assistance effort.

On this day, more than 40 employees from related organizations outside the county participated in the labor assistance. To avoid burdening the farmers, they prepared their own tools and lunch boxes and worked hard to provide practical help to the farms by harvesting onions, packing them in nets, and transporting the harvested crops at the onion cultivation site (approximately 4,950㎡) in Soya-ri, Daehap-myeon.
Recently, rural areas have been facing a double hardship due to labor shortages caused by aging populations and rising labor costs accompanying inflation.

The farm owner said, “I was worried because there was no labor during the recent onion harvest season,” and added, “The staff from Changnyeong-gun and Nonghyup helped with the farming like family, which was a great support.”
Seong Nak-in, the county governor, said, “I am glad that we could provide even a little help to the farms facing labor shortages,” and added, “We will continue to monitor the difficulties of the farms and make every effort to ensure that the onion harvest is completed on time.”
