Cooperation to Promote Research in Marine Humanities
The Humanities Korea Plus (HK+) Project Group at Pukyong National University (Director Kim Chang-kyung) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Institute of Marine Culture at National Taiwan Ocean University (Director Oh Ji-woong) to establish a research foundation for marine humanities and to activate related research, and discussed specific cooperation plans.

Following this agreement, both institutions will promote a cooperative system including ▲ mutual visits and exchanges of scholars, researchers, and students ▲ sharing of curricula, teaching methods, and other academic information ▲ exchange of academic information and publications ▲ joint hosting of academic conferences and workshops ▲ invitation and sponsorship of various cultural events ▲ formation of joint research teams and establishment of academic networks.
In particular, as marine humanities research institutions located in Busan and Keelung, the two institutions plan to work together to strengthen international cooperation in the field of marine humanities and to revitalize the Northeast Asian maritime humanities network through synergistic effects between the institutions.
Kim Chang-kyung, Director of the Humanities Korea Plus (HK+) Project Group, stated, “The Institute of Marine Culture at National Taiwan Ocean University is located in Keelung, a port city with a deep historical connection as it was the first port where Pukyong National University’s training ship set sail and docked in 1956. We expect this agreement to serve as an important cornerstone for marine humanities research between the two institutions.” He added, “We will strive to develop marine humanities in Northeast Asia by expanding the foundation for cooperative research in this field.”
