The police are investigating an executive of an online media outlet who unlawfully disclosed the list of victims of the Itaewon tragedy.
According to the police on the 14th, the Anti-Corruption and Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency summoned Kim Ho-kyung, the editorial director of the online media outlet 'Mindeulle,' as a suspect and is investigating him for unlawfully disclosing the victim list since the morning of the same day.
The police plan to summon Choi Young-min, co-CEO of the online media outlet 'The Tam-sa,' on the 15th under the same suspicion.
Last November, Mindeulle and The Tam-sa posted a poster on the internet containing the names of 155 victims of the Itaewon tragedy. In response, Lee Jong-bae, a member of the Seoul Metropolitan Council from the People Power Party, and others reported these media outlets to the police for violating the Personal Information Protection Act, claiming that the victim list was disclosed without the consent of the bereaved families.
The police are tracing the leak route, not ruling out the possibility that public officials from Seoul City and others involved in the handling of the tragedy at the time may have provided the list to them unrelated to their official duties.
