Interned at Intel... also faced difficulties finding a job

A 14-year-old genius boy in the United States, who is about to graduate from college, will join Elon Musk's private space company SpaceX as an engineer starting next month.

According to U.S. economic media Business Insider and others on the 11th (local time), Kairan Qazi, a genius boy living in Fremont, California, will soon graduate from Santa Clara University. He is the youngest graduate in the history of Santa Clara University.

On the 8th, Qazi announced the news of his graduation from Santa Clara University on his LinkedIn page, saying, "The next step is to join the Starlink engineering team as a software engineer at the coolest company in the world." He added that he is preparing for life at SpaceX, which will begin next month.

Qazi plans to move soon to Redmond, Washington, to work at SpaceX. Currently, he lives with his parents.

Called a genius boy, Qazi reportedly was already speaking in complete sentences at the age of two. A pediatrician who recognized his exceptional intelligence from an early age advised Qazi's parents to enroll him in kindergarten quickly. On his first day of kindergarten, Qazi reportedly said, "School is boring," and mentioned the 'Arab Spring' issue that was happening at the time.

By the time he reached the third grade of elementary school, he lost interest in the regular curriculum. Upon learning this, his parents, teachers, and pediatrician decided that college education would be more suitable. Afterwards, Qazi entered Las Positas College, a two- to three-year community college, and at the age of 11, he began studying computer science and engineering at Santa Clara University, a four-year institution.

Qazi had already started his social life before joining SpaceX. He revealed that from June 2019, while still in college, he worked as an intern for four years in the research and development department of the U.S. semiconductor company Intel. On his LinkedIn page, Qazi described himself as "the first undergraduate to work in the Human Artificial Intelligence (AI) Lab."

However, it is reported that securing a job at SpaceX was not easy. According to The Seattle Times, Qazi applied to dozens of companies for a year but was rejected 95 times and received full-time job offers from only three places. Ahmed Amer, Qazi's advisor and a professor at Santa Clara University, said that Qazi had difficulty finding a job because of his age.

On his LinkedIn page, Qazi introduced himself by saying, "I am fun, fearless, and driven by strong intellectual curiosity," and added, "My dream is to have a job that tries to solve difficult issues and brings fundamental innovation for the public good."
