Intensive Crackdown on Environmental Pollution Activities

Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam Province, will conduct special monitoring and crackdowns until the end of August to eradicate green algae outbreaks and public water pollution caused by illegal activities such as unauthorized discharge of environmental pollutants.

This special crackdown will be carried out in three stages by organizing three enforcement teams of two people each, totaling six members: ▲prior publicity and guidance (June) ▲intensive monitoring, crackdowns, and patrol reinforcement (July to August) ▲facility restoration and technical support (August). The enforcement teams will focus on strengthening crackdowns and patrols on businesses suspected of unauthorized wastewater discharge during the rainy season, repeat offenders of various environmental violations, and large-scale livestock facilities that store or neglect pollutants for extended periods.

First, until the end of June, special monitoring and crackdown plans will be publicized in advance targeting pollutant-emitting businesses to encourage self-inspection and prevent environmental pollution activities.

From July to the end of August, intensive patrols will be conducted targeting businesses suspected of illegal pollutant discharge. Restoration of facilities damaged by heavy rains will be encouraged, and technical support will be provided to affected businesses by utilizing professional personnel from the Green Environment Support Center, the Environmental Technicians Association, and private experts.

Park Chang-yeol, Director of the Environmental Hygiene Division, stated, “We plan to strongly respond to intentional pollution acts such as non-operation of prevention facilities and unauthorized discharge of livestock manure and wastewater, which take advantage of difficulties in enforcement during heavy rains.” He added, “We will eradicate illegal environmental pollution activities through thorough guidance and inspections.”
