Elin Noble, American Textile Artist, Appointed as Jinju City Public Relations Ambassador

On the 11th, Jinju City in Gyeongnam awarded plaques of appreciation to overseas artists who participated in the Jinju Silk Residence Program at the City Hall Entrepreneurs' Room and appointed American textile artist Elin Noble as an ambassador for Jinju City.


Elin Noble is a world-renowned textile artist, whose book was selected as the best by an independent American publisher.


At the appointment ceremony, Elin Noble said, "Through participating in the residence, I fell in love with the beauty of Jinju City and Jinju Silk," and added, "I will promote Jinju City and Jinju Silk through my activities in the American and European textile networks and works featuring Jinju Silk."


Joo Kyu-il, Mayor of Jinju City, expressed his gratitude, saying, "I am thankful to have successfully carried out the program together," and urged, "Please remember the time we spent together as a good memory and be sure to visit Jinju City again."


Mayor Joo also conveyed his appreciation to the 10 participating artists from 7 countries who shared the diversity and extensive experience of world-renowned artists with local artists and promoted Jinju Silk.


The overseas artists who received plaques of appreciation stayed in Jinju for 10 days from the 2nd to the 11th to participate in the '2023 Jinju Silk Residence Program,' promoted by Jinju City as part of the UNESCO Creative Cities project, collaborating with local artists on creative works featuring Jinju Silk.

The beautiful journey of domestic and international artists over 10 days drew high praise, providing a special experience for students of the Department of Clothing at Gyeongsang National University who participated as local artists, inspiring new creative desires among local artists, and offering an opportunity to directly promote the excellence of Jinju Silk, one of the world's top five silk production regions, to globally renowned artists.


In particular, the artists promised to maintain ongoing exchanges with Jinju City through invitations for Jinju City artists, educational collaborations, and exhibitions after returning to their home countries.


The works from this program are scheduled to be exhibited as a side event at the '2023 Jinju Traditional Craft Biennale,' to be held in November at the area around the Vehicle Maintenance High School and Railroad Culture Park.
