'ChatGPT' Altman Discusses AI Investment Collaboration with SK Networks

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, who visited Korea, discussed investment cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI) companies with SK Networks.


According to the business community on the 11th, Choi Seong-hwan, President of SK Networks' Business Division, and CEO Altman met in Seoul on the 9th to discuss investment cooperation in AI companies.


During this meeting, both sides reportedly reached a consensus regarding investments in OpenAI and Web3. Web3 refers to a decentralized and independent web.


Industry insiders expect that an SK Group and OpenAI network will be established. It is anticipated that AI technology will first be applied to SK Magic home appliances, a subsidiary of SK Networks.


CEO Altman emphasized investment in AI companies and memory semiconductors during his visit to Korea.


On the 9th, he met with President Yoon Seok-yeol and stressed the role of semiconductors in building the AI ecosystem. He stated, "In the AI era, the demand for memory semiconductors will increase due to the massive amount of data," and requested Korean semiconductor companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix to expand their production capacity.
