Live Broadcast in Front of 150 General Public
Donghaeng Lottery CEO "Will Restore Trust"
On the 10th, the Lotto lottery drawing will be conducted as a live broadcast in front of 150 members of the general public. Controversy arose after the 1057th Lotto lottery drawing announced on March 4th, where 664 second-place winners matched five winning numbers plus the bonus number '12'. It was revealed that one person won on 100 tickets among them, raising suspicions of manipulation.
At that time, the Lottery Commission Secretariat explained, "Multiple wins are the result of preferred numbers being drawn by chance," and stated, "Lotto lottery manipulation is impossible."

The Ministry of Strategy and Finance's Lottery Commission and the lottery operator Donghaeng Lottery will hold the "Public Lotto 6/25 Drawing Broadcast" at MBC's new building in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. While about 15 members of the public usually attend the Lotto lottery drawing broadcasts weekly, this time 150 people, ten times the usual number, will attend. This is the first time since the Lotto lottery was issued that such a large number of people have been invited to publicly witness the drawing.
Public interest was high, with a total of 1,704 people applying to attend the Lotto lottery drawing broadcast from the 15th to the 26th of last month, resulting in a competition rate of 11.4 to 1. Applicants were limited to general public aged 19 or older who had no experience attending Lotto or pension broadcasts in the past six months, and attendees were selected through a drawing.
Donghaeng Lottery plans to promote the fairness and transparency of the lottery broadcast drawing through active communication with the public during this event.
Hong Deok-gi, CEO of Donghaeng Lottery, addressed the suspicions at a press conference. CEO Hong said, "Recently, the number of first and second prize winners in the Lotto lottery has increased, raising public interest in the lottery. Initially, about 2 million tickets were sold per draw, so there was a chance no winners would appear, but now nearly 100 million tickets are sold per draw. It is inevitable that more than 10 winners occur per draw."
He added, "It is statistically natural for the number of winners per draw to increase. Initially, about 14% of tickets were auto-selected, but now 70% are auto-selected. Manual selection tends to show patterns, but the 19th draw's 40 billion won winner was auto-selected, and the number of auto-selections has increased." He stated that they will restore trust further by adopting the latest technology.
He continued, "Taking this public broadcast as an opportunity, we will enhance the trustworthiness and transparency of the lottery and strive to have the lottery recognized as a healthier leisure culture."
Lotto sales stop every Saturday at 8 PM, and the drawing broadcast takes place every Saturday at 8:35 PM. At the Lotto drawing site on this day, Vice Minister Choi Sang-dae of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance and actress Kim So-yeon, who is the lottery ambassador and head of the "Happiness Sympathy Volunteer Group" operated by the Ministry's Lottery Commission, will appear as the golden hand.
