Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, will operate a summer heatwave countermeasure period from May 20 to September 30 to protect the lives of residents from the summer heatwave.
During the heatwave countermeasure period, a comprehensive prevention plan will be established. In cooperation with the Andong Meteorological Office, Cheongsong Fire Station, and related departments, a joint TF team will be formed to respond to the heatwave. They will build a system for sharing heatwave information and responding to situations, thereby promoting sector-specific heatwave measures to minimize damage to lives and property.
Cooling facilities at 86 heat-relief shelters (senior centers) have been inspected, and water-spraying trucks will be operated mainly in the eight eup and myeon administrative districts to reduce the urban heat island effect. The county office, eup and myeon offices, and Cheongsong-gun Autonomous Disaster Prevention Group will produce promotional materials and conduct heatwave prevention campaigns such as distributing ice water and encouraging the use of parasols at traditional markets.
Additionally, focused management measures will be implemented for the three major vulnerable groups to heatwaves: elderly living alone, people with disabilities, elderly agricultural workers, and outdoor workplaces.
First, for elderly living alone and vulnerable groups with mobility difficulties, 84 life managers and about 200 members of the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Group will check on their well-being through phone calls and visits.
For elderly agricultural workers, smart village broadcasts will be conducted three times daily, and surveillance activities will be strengthened using members of the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Group. To minimize crop damage, irrigation work will be carried out, and shading and ventilation facilities at livestock rearing sites will be inspected.
To protect workers at outdoor construction sites, self-diagnosis checklists and promotional materials will be distributed. Safety management plans for workers and the status of heat-relief shelter installations at workplaces will be thoroughly inspected.
Along with these efforts, heatwave prevention publicity activities will be actively promoted through the Cheongsong News Bulletin, disaster text message electronic billboards, smart village broadcasts, and disaster text message dispatches to raise public awareness.
County Governor Yoon Kyung-hee stated, “We plan to actively respond by mobilizing administrative power to minimize damage in the three major vulnerable areas to heatwaves,” and added, “We will do our best to ensure that all residents can spend the summer healthily and safely.”
