Request for Participation in the Korea-UN Command Defense Ministers' Meeting
Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-seop met with Wayne Eyre, Chief of Defence Staff of Canada, who is visiting Korea on the 9th, and discussed issues of mutual interest such as the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and in the region, as well as ways to develop defense cooperation between the two countries.
Minister Lee expressed gratitude for Canada's active support for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, mentioning that Chief Eyre served as the Deputy Commander of the United Nations Command from 2018 to 2019. He then explained major defense events in the second half of this year, including the Seoul Defense Dialogue and the Korea-UN Command Defense Ministers' Meeting, and requested Canada's interest and participation.
Chief Eyre expressed special interest in the security of the Korean Peninsula and responded, "Canada will continue its mission in the United Nations Command to maintain peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula."
The Ministry of National Defense stated that the two ministers agreed to deepen and expand defense cooperation between the two countries in various fields such as joint exercises and defense industry cooperation.
