Suwon City Creates 8 Premium Street Forest Paths

Suwon City Creates 8 Premium Street Forest Paths 'Premium Street Forest Paths' Created Throughout Suwon City

The city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province has created 'garden-style green belts' in eight locations, including Gyeongsudaero, so that citizens can enjoy premium tree-lined streets anytime in their surroundings.

Since March, Suwon City has planted ▲six types of large trees such as Zelkova (179 trees) ▲fifteen types of shrubs such as Mugwort (8,219 shrubs) ▲twenty types of ground cover plants such as Hairy Beard Grass (65,190 plants), and installed benches in three locations and stone benches and other facilities in thirteen locations, the city announced on the 9th.

Previously, the green belts were mainly composed of single-species shrubs, resulting in monotonous aesthetics and a lack of seasonal variation, which led to relatively minimal effects on improving the streetscape.

Accordingly, this year, various plants and uniquely shaped trees and landscaping stones were used to create changes in shape and color with each season.

Additionally, at Hwaseomun Intersection and Changryongmun Intersection green belt spaces, a peony garden was created by planting about 20 species of peonies and redbud trees, and green spaces were introduced on traffic islands and central medians.

By planting uniquely shaped trees and perennial ground cover plants, beautiful walking paths were established.

On two school routes to Suseong Elementary and Jungchon Elementary, ground cover plants were planted between street trees to protect children from fine dust and heatwaves and to prevent traffic accidents, creating a 'Child Safety Green Forest.'

A representative from the Suwon City Parks and Greenery Office said, "We will create a pleasant and beautiful streetscape in the green belt spaces," and added, "We will strive to make the tree-lined streets a resting place for citizens."
