The 'Rising Star' Rose Zhang (USA) is creating a sensation.

The emergence of the Chinese-American golfer has stirred the world of women's golf. Rose Zhang won the LPGA Tour Mizuho Americas Open held at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey, USA, on the 4th. She won her LPGA Tour debut immediately after declaring her professional status at the end of last month. The prize money for the victory was $412,500 (approximately 500 million KRW). This is a remarkable record, the first in 72 years since Beverly Hanson (USA) won the Eastern Open in 1951. Rose Zhang's world ranking also soared 420 places from 482nd last week to 62nd.

‘Rising Star’ Rose Jang "You Were Curious About Me~" Rose Zhang is a rising star on the LPGA Tour. She made a splash as a future force in women's golf by winning her professional debut, quickly emerging as a whirlwind set to lead the sport globally.

As a non-member, Rose Zhang became an LPGA member immediately after her win. However, she will be hard to see on the field for a while as she is balancing her studies at Stanford University, which she entered in 2021. She also withdrew from the next tournament, the LPGA Tour ShopRite Classic, to return to the dormitory and prepare for exams. Rose Zhang smiled, saying, "I am back on campus studying hard" and "It looks like it will be a busy week."

Rose Zhang was born on May 24, 2003, in Arcadia, California, USA. She started playing golf at the age of nine. She hit the ball accurately on her third swing after holding the club. Her father, Haibin Zhang, decided to have her play golf and began formal lessons. Rose Zhang's family is also of interest. She has parents and an older brother who is ten years older. Her parents and brother were born in China, and her brother, Bill Sida Zhang, immigrated to the USA in 2001 when he was eight years old.

The Zhang family moved to Irvine, California, in 2008 and still reside there. Her father majored in physics at the University of Science and Technology of China in 1994 and supplemented his education at Yale University in the USA in 2004. Since 2006, he has worked as a financial expert at Bloomberg, Lehman Brothers, Barclays Capital, PIMCO, and others.

‘Rising Star’ Rose Jang "You Were Curious About Me~" Rose Jang's father, Haibin Jang, is a strong supporter of his daughter. After majoring in physics, he works as a financial analyst. In April, he served as Rose Jang's caddie at the Augusta National Women's Amateur, where they achieved victory together.

Rose Zhang's father is also very interested in golf and occasionally served as her caddie. In April, they jointly won the Augusta National Women's Amateur, the most prestigious amateur women's golf tournament. Rose Zhang's swing coach, George Pinel, said, "Rose Zhang's father does not interfere with her lessons or play. He is a style that trusts her thoroughly," adding, "He plays a significant role in her mental aspect. He is the best father for a golfer." Rose Zhang's mother, Li Kai, is a dental technician. Her brother Bill Sida is active as a real estate and financial consultant after graduating from California State University.

Rose Zhang is a promising player who achieved the amateur Grand Slam. She surpassed the records of 'Golf Emperor' Tiger Woods (USA) and 'Golf Genius' Lydia Ko (New Zealand). She holds the longest period (141 weeks) as the No. 1 amateur in the world ranking. The previous record was Lydia Ko's 130 weeks. Representing Stanford University, she swept 12 wins in 20 tournaments. This is the most wins in Stanford's history, surpassing Woods' 11 wins. This season, she has 8 wins in 10 tournaments.

Rose Zhang has collected countless trophies, including the 2020 US Women's Amateur, 2021 US Women's Junior, this year's Augusta National Women's Amateur, and the first-ever back-to-back individual titles in NCAA history. She also won the Mark H. McCormack Medal, awarded by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club (R&A) to the best amateur, for three consecutive years from 2020 to last year. She received the Annika Award, given to the best female collegiate player. She is sponsored by the global sports brand Adidas.

Rose Zhang has a competitive spirit. Her calm demeanor, unusual for a 20-year-old, is a strength. At the Augusta National Women's Amateur, she faltered on the final day and allowed Jenny Bae (USA) to force a playoff but won after the second playoff. In this Mizuho Americas Open, she also defeated Jennifer Kupcho (USA), who has three career wins, after two playoffs.
