The ‘Companion Beach System’ is a private participation beach management campaign that adopts a certain section of the beach to care for and maintain it like a pet, aiming to collect marine litter and improve the scenery. CJ CheilJedang previously adopted Masian Beach in Incheon as its first companion beach in 2021 and has continued activities for three years. Dadaepo Beach in Busan, known for its beautiful natural scenery and considered a representative summer vacation spot, was adopted as the second companion beach due to the increased need for cleanup activities before and after the holiday season.
About 50 CJ CheilJedang employees collected waste such as discarded plastics at Busan Dadaepo Beach, Incheon Masian Beach, and nearby coastal roads. Participating employees sorted the types of waste for separate disposal and recorded the amounts in real time. The collected waste will be used as data to address marine environmental issues.
CJ CheilJedang conducts companion beach cleanup activities more than three times a year and plans to actively participate in environmental protection campaigns linked to International Coastal Cleanup Day (September 17) in the second half of this year.
A CJ CheilJedang official said, “It is meaningful to be able to contribute to the preservation of the marine ecosystem in the Busan area, where we first started our sugar business,” and added, “We will continue to actively practice ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management activities to protect the Earth, our home.”
