Busan District Court Sentences Perpetrator to 1 Million Won Fine on May 17
Conviction for Trespassing Revealed After Detention in 'Busan Roundhouse Kick' Case
The fact that the perpetrator in the so-called 'Busan Roundhouse Kick' case, who is currently being held at the Busan Detention Center, was convicted last month on charges of trespassing has only recently come to light.
On June 8, the Busan District Court Criminal Division 11 (Presiding Judge Jung Sunyeol) announced that on May 17, it had sentenced Mr. A, who had been indicted on charges of trespassing, to a fine of 1 million won.

Mr. A was brought to trial earlier this year on charges of entering the home of Ms. B in Busanjin-gu, Busan, at around 1 a.m. on March 12 last year-approximately two months before the 'Busan Roundhouse Kick' incident-by entering the passcode and gaining access.
It is reported that about a month prior to the incident, Mr. A learned the passcode when he entered Ms. B's home together with one of her acquaintances.
Mr. A submitted statements of absence for both of the two trial dates and the sentencing date, and did not attend any of the proceedings.
However, after the first trial verdict was delivered, he filed an appeal on May 25.
Meanwhile, separate from the trespassing case, Mr. A was sentenced to 12 years in prison in the first trial last October for following a victim returning home at around 5 a.m. on May 22 last year and assaulting her in the common entrance of an officetel in Seomyeon. He is currently undergoing an appellate trial.
Prior to the appellate court's sentencing on June 12, the prosecution requested a 35-year prison sentence for Mr. A, along with a 20-year order for the attachment of an electronic tracking device and protective supervision.
The prosecution sought a heavier sentence because, during the appellate proceedings, they amended the indictment from attempted murder to attempted rape and murder. The prosecution based this on newly re-examined evidence from the victim's jeans, which revealed Mr. A's DNA, and concluded that the perpetrator assaulted the victim with the intent to commit sexual assault.
