According to the police, A (14) and three others are suspected of stealing an unlocked sports utility vehicle (SUV) in a residential area of Asan City around 11:40 PM on the 2nd, and driving without a license for over four hours around the Asan area before causing an accident.
The distance they drove is estimated to be about 100 km, with a top speed exceeding 150 km/h.
After causing an accident at a farmland in Inju-myeon, Asan City, around 4 AM on the 3rd, they abandoned the vehicle and fled, but were caught by police who responded to a resident’s report about an hour later.
All four are second-year middle school students, and two of them have not yet had their birthdays, making them juvenile offenders under the law. They told the police, "We wanted to try driving, so we decided to steal a car," and "We targeted cars that were not locked."
The police are conducting a detailed investigation into the circumstances of the crime with the teenagers and their parents.
