Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, will operate 10 "Fine Dust Safe Smart Shelters" starting this month.
Dong-gu plans to establish and operate "Fine Dust Safe Smart Shelters" at a total of 10 locations with high foot traffic within the district, including ▲Pureungil Park (Dongmyeong-dong) ▲Duam Neighborhood Park ▲Duam Town Intersection ▲Sansu Cultural Square ▲Sansu Five-way Intersection Pavilion ▲Sansu Five-way Intersection Fountain ▲Two locations at Pureungil Park Plaza ▲Sansu 2-dong Administrative Welfare Center ▲Pureun Village Community Center.
The "Fine Dust Safe Smart Shelter" is a multifunctional outdoor complex facility that serves as a safe outdoor refuge from air pollution such as fine dust and yellow dust, as well as a space for rest and information provision.
It is equipped with advanced features that enable simultaneous air circulation and purification by integrating cutting-edge technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
When fine dust concentration rises, IoT sensors automatically activate and operate through an air density controller to spray purified air with increased density, pushing out polluted air inside the shelter to form an air dome.
Additionally, residents can check fine dust levels in real time via monitors installed inside the shelter, which will also provide various district news updates. Smart wireless chargers and heated benches installed within the shelter are expected to enhance resident satisfaction.
