[Mania] Essential Home Appliance to Beat the Jangma Season... Tried the New LG Whisen Dehumidifier Model

Equipped with High-Efficiency Dual Compressor
Energy Efficiency Grade 1

As the rainy season approaches, more consumers are seeking dehumidifiers. Compared to air conditioners, dehumidifiers have the advantage of managing indoor humidity quickly and effectively. However, high power consumption and noise are factors that make people hesitate to purchase them.

LG Electronics has released a new dehumidifier product that addresses these customer concerns. The '2023 Whisen Dual Inverter Dehumidifier,' launched on the 1st, boasts the best-in-class dehumidifying performance. Equipped with a dual inverter compressor, it maintains a comfortable indoor environment without worrying about electricity bills. I used this product for a week.

First, the design was clean and straightforward. The control panel, including the power button, was located on the top, and the water tank was positioned at the lower right. There was a handle next to the control panel and wheels at the bottom, making it convenient to move. The hook for winding the power cord and the design allowing the plug to be inserted were also appreciated.

When operating the dehumidifier, the desired humidity setting and the current humidity were displayed on the screen. It worked until the desired humidity was reached, and remote operation via an app was possible. Especially during the rainy season, it seemed convenient to control it remotely from outside and come home to fresh air. Energy monitoring was also available to check how much the dehumidifier was used.

There were five operating modes: Smart Dehumidification, Quick Dehumidification, Low Noise Dehumidification, Intensive Drying, and Clothes Drying. I used the Smart Dehumidification mode, which automatically adjusts humidity by sensing indoor humidity, the most. Although the period I used it was not particularly humid, when the indoor temperature was between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius, just running the dehumidifier and a fan allowed me to live without the usual damp feeling. For those who dislike the cold air from air conditioners, using a dehumidifier seemed like a good way to endure hot weather.

Emptying the water tank was also convenient. An alarm would sound when it was time to empty the water, so there was no need to constantly check the water level. It was also good that the device automatically stopped when the water tank was full. Using the included extension hose to dry wet shoes or to focus on drying a wardrobe was also satisfying.

Above all, the most attractive feature was the ability to save on electricity bills. Although it was difficult to check power consumption directly, all eight models?including three new LG Whisen dehumidifiers and five models released last year?have an energy efficiency rating of Grade 1. Based on the 20L model, using the Smart Dehumidification mode for an average of 5.7 hours daily results in a monthly electricity bill of about 8,000 KRW. Additionally, tests conducted with the certification agency Busan Technopark showed that operating the 20L new model in Low Noise Dehumidification mode can save about 47% of power consumption compared to Quick Dehumidification mode.

The downside was that the power cord felt somewhat short. The biggest advantage of a dehumidifier is that it can be moved and used anywhere without separate installation. By simply connecting the power cord, it can be used in the living room, master bedroom, veranda, and some consumers even install it in the bathroom to keep it dry. Since the location of the outlet varies depending on where it is used, having a longer power cord would make moving it easier.
