Samsung C&T and Korea Power Exchange Collaborate to Promote Energy Pause in Apartment Complexes

The Energy Pause program rewards electricity consumers in various ways, such as monetary compensation or mileage points, when they reduce their electricity usage during the requested times by the Korea Power Exchange. Since 2020, the Korea Power Exchange has been operating the Energy Pause certification system for apartment complexes.

Through this agreement, Samsung C&T plans to go beyond the existing remote energy metering services provided by construction companies and offer real-time energy monitoring and demand management services as well. The Korea Power Exchange will establish a preliminary certification system for Energy Pause targeting newly built apartments and will promote a pilot project with Samsung C&T by establishing guidelines for Auto Demand Response (Auto DR).

Additionally, the Korea Power Exchange awarded Raemian Mokdong Adelice in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, the highest Energy Pause certification grade of AAA, marking the first time a private apartment complex has received this certification. Previously, this grade was only awarded to public apartments managed by the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH). According to Samsung C&T, the complex achieved over 90 points (AAA grade) by meeting certification requirements such as installing intelligent electricity meters and gateways capable of collecting energy data for building energy demand management infrastructure, and transmitting electricity consumption data in real-time (every 5 minutes).

Kim Sang-il, head of the Korea Power Exchange, said, "We hope that the Energy Pause service and certification system will be further activated through cooperation with private construction companies, and that the Auto Demand Response service will be prioritized for newly built apartments."

Cho Hye-jung, executive director at Samsung C&T, stated, "We plan to provide residents with real-time energy information and promote energy bill savings and participation in eco-friendly activities. In the future, through the Raemian Home platform, we will expand various customer experience services beyond just automatic energy demand management."
