Kakao Games announced on the 8th that it has signed a joint business agreement for the global service of the new MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) "ROM (R.O.M: Remember Of Majesty (working title))," currently being developed by RedLab Games.
Through this agreement, both companies will collaborate in various ways to ensure the successful domestic and global service of the new title "ROM." Kakao Games will provide support in marketing and platform operations based on its accumulated experience in the MMORPG genre and global markets. RedLab Games will be responsible for overall game services, including development and operations.
"ROM" aims to realize a battlefield where users worldwide can participate and is preparing for a simultaneous global launch within the year. To this end, it will support various specifications of PC and mobile devices and offer a real-time translation chat system. The game will feature strategic territory wars and siege battles, and introduce a highly flexible economic system, including one-on-one trading.
RedLab Games, the developer, is an MMORPG-specialized development company founded by veterans with over 20 years of game development experience, led by CEO Shin Hyun-geun, who oversaw the production of the mobile MMORPG "EOS Red." Kakao Games has maintained a cooperative relationship since making a strategic investment in RedLab Games in June 2022.
Joye Gye-hyun, CEO of Kakao Games, said, "We are pleased to be launching a new title with RedLab Games, whose development capabilities have been proven through successful experiences in domestic and overseas markets," adding, "We will provide multifaceted support so that Kakao Games' know-how and RedLab Games' core MMORPG technology can come together to deliver a successful service."
Shin Hyun-geun, CEO of RedLab Games, stated, "We are very pleased to collaborate with Kakao Games through this joint business agreement," and added, "RedLab Games' goal is to create a game ecosystem where developers and users can empathize and coexist, and the first project is 'ROM.' As the project’s lead PD, I will successfully complete the MMORPG's simultaneous global launch through direct communication with users."
