Bukpyeong Yeongjeon Village and Songji Mabong Village Secure 4.4 Billion KRW in Project Funding
Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, has had two villages, Yeongjeon Village in Bukpyeong-myeon and Mabong Village in Songji-myeon, selected for the 2024 Saetteul Village Project (Rural Vulnerable Area Living Condition Improvement Project) by the National Balanced Development Committee.
According to the county on the 7th, Yeongjeon in Bukpyeong and Mabong in Songji will receive a total project budget of 4.4 billion KRW, including 3 billion KRW in national funds, over four years starting in 2024 to implement various projects aimed at improving vulnerable living environments.
The main projects include △ maintenance of drainage channels, village roads, and communal village facilities, as well as improvement of traditional toilets and other sanitary safety infrastructure △ housing maintenance projects such as vacant house repairs, slate roof upgrades, and aging house repairs △ village environment improvements including fence maintenance and creation of resident rest areas △ human care and resident capacity-building projects.
A project budget of 2.1 billion KRW will be invested in Yeongjeon, Bukpyeong, and 2.3 billion KRW in Mabong, Songji.
The Saetteul Village Project has been implemented since 2015 to improve living environments by upgrading basic infrastructure and housing maintenance so that residents in vulnerable rural areas can be guaranteed a minimum quality of life.
In particular, Haenam-gun has accelerated improvements in vulnerable rural areas by having two sites selected for the project for two consecutive years, following Bukpyeong Sinhong (project budget 2.2 billion KRW) and Gyegok Dunjoo (project budget 1.9 billion KRW) last year.
Starting with Hwasan Haechang Village in 2015, Haenam-gun completed projects in three districts: Hyeonsan Hyanggyo in 2016 and Okcheon Daesan in 2017. It is currently carrying out projects in Hwasan Gwandong and Munnae Yerak in 2020, Samsan Sanlim and Munnae Dongri in 2021, Okcheon Yongdong in 2022, and Bukpyeong Sinhong and Gyegok Dunjoo in 2023.
County Governor Myeong Hyeongwan stated, “We will continue to discover vulnerable villages and do our best to improve residents’ quality of life. We will actively support not only the living condition improvement projects for vulnerable areas but also resident-led project initiatives.”
