Discussing Expansion Plans for Virtual Production Use
Recently emerging Virtual Production is a production technique that shoots media and content such as dramas by playing background videos to be actually implemented on a large LED wall. It is highly regarded for its cost-effectiveness in reducing time and production costs. Since computer graphic elements can be checked simultaneously with shooting, flexible directing is possible, and post-production is greatly reduced.
On the 7th, the Ministry of Science and ICT held a meeting to revitalize the virtual production industry. Minister Lee Jong-ho of the Ministry of Science and ICT visited the Ilsan Bitmaru Broadcasting Support Center and the Paju CJ ENM Studio Center consecutively. It was a place to discuss ways to expand the use of virtual production, which is still in its early stages, to strengthen the competitiveness of media and content companies.
On that day, production companies with experience in utilizing virtual production technology, virtual studio operators, LED wall manufacturers, and experts attended to share various opinions such as proposals and difficulties in the media and content production field. Production companies such as The Great Show and IOFX suggested that public infrastructure construction and support for the use of private facilities are necessary so that small and medium-sized production companies and broadcasters without their own infrastructure can have opportunities to access the technology. Virtual studio operators such as CJ ENM and VIVE Studios proposed support for domestic solution development and talent cultivation. They also emphasized the need to expand support for content production using virtual production technology.
LED wall manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, considering that the virtual production industry is in its early stages, suggested that government-led revitalization policies such as training technical personnel and providing incentives for technology research, development, and investment are necessary. Minister Lee Jong-ho said, "We recognize that virtual production can play a significant role in reducing production costs and automating the production environment of media and content, and we will strive to commercialize the various opinions received today."
