Gangseo-gu, Seoul announced that it will hold the traditional cultural arts performance ‘Pungnyu 2023’ at 7 p.m. on the 8th at the 2nd-floor performance hall (Ari Hall) of Gangseo Artium.

‘Pungnyu,’ meaning to enjoy elegantly and tastefully, is a planned performance to share the unique spirit of Korea through gugak (traditional Korean music) and relieve everyday stress.

The diverse traditional arts performances will be hosted by singer Jin Mingu.

First, the Lee Eunju Dance Company will open the show brilliantly with ‘Taepyeongmu,’ a splendid yet restrained dance based on Seoul and Gyeonggi shamanistic music.

Following this, the lively ‘Yangban Byeon-gyeom mask dance,’ where the face changes frequently during the dance, and ‘Anj-eunban Seoljanggu,’ a seated Janggu drumming performance developed from Seoljanggu rhythms, will guide the audience into the beautiful world of gugak.

Also, ‘Cheonnyeonmanse (Instrumental Ensemble),’ which carries the wish for a thousand years of longevity, and ‘Ppaengpajeon,’ telling the story of Ppaengpa who depletes Simbongsa’s wealth, will captivate the audience’s attention, and ‘Songsuyulchang,’ a performance of singing prose or poetry, will conclude the event.

Gangseo Artium, where this performance is held, is the representative cultural and artistic space of Gangseo-gu that opened last month. The high-quality acoustics of the 2nd-floor Ari Hall will enhance the audience’s emotional experience of the stage.

‘Pungnyu 2023’ is free, and admission is on a first-come-first-served basis until 10 minutes before the performance starts, without separate reservation.

A district official said, “This performance was prepared to offer a time to feel the value of our tradition and to foster communication and harmony across generations,” adding, “We hope many people will come to enjoy the charm and excitement of our traditional melodies at ‘Pungnyu 2023,’ held at Gangseo Artium equipped with the best sound facilities.”
