Guaranteeing Consumers' Right to Know and Freedom of Choice
Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, will conduct a five-day inspection and supervision of agricultural product origin labeling from the 5th to the 9th to guarantee consumers' right to know and their right to choose, targeting agricultural and livestock product handling businesses and general restaurants where demand increases during the vacation season.
This agricultural product origin labeling inspection will cover 663 agricultural product items at traditional markets, marts, and processing companies within the jurisdiction, as well as 24 items at general and rest restaurants.
The main items for supervision include ▲ compliance with origin labeling and appropriateness of labeling methods ▲ crackdown on false origin labeling or labeling that may cause confusion.
Violations of origin labeling are subject to fines ranging from 50,000 KRW to a maximum of 10 million KRW for non-labeling or improper labeling methods under the "Enforcement Decree of the Act on the Origin Labeling of Agricultural and Fishery Products," and false labeling may incur surcharges from 0.5 to 4 times the violation amount.
Seo Jong-rip, Director of the Agricultural Food Distribution Division, stated, “We will thoroughly conduct origin labeling inspection and supervision so that visitors to Goseong-gun during the vacation season can purchase agricultural products with confidence.”
