Sconex Completes Development of 'XR-Based Large-Scale Hybrid Simulation Training System'

Sconex Entertainment (CEO Hwang Dae-sil, hereinafter ‘Sconex’), an XR-based metaverse tech company, announced on the 7th that it has completed the development of the ‘XR-based Large Space Hybrid Walk-Through Training System (A Large Space Walk-Through Training)’ and has entered pilot operation.

This training program was developed as part of the Defense Technology Research Institute’s project to foster global small and medium-sized enterprises in the defense industry, aiming to address the limitations of current simulation training such as time and resource constraints and to enhance the global technological competitiveness of the domestic defense industry.

Sconex applied IR camera-based position tracking technology to the ‘XR-based Large Space Hybrid Walk-Through Training System’ to implement a ‘hybrid virtual space movement method.’ This combines the walk-through method, where the character moves according to the trainee’s actual movements, and the locomotion method, where movement is controlled via a controller, within a single scenario. This feature allows comprehensive training by selectively utilizing the strengths of each method. Sconex is currently filing domestic and international patents for this technology.

The ‘XR-based Large Space Hybrid Walk-Through Training System’ enables simultaneous large-space training for up to eight people within a 15m by 15m square area. Trainees can experience highly immersive simulation training by wearing haptic equipment modeled after actual military weapons used in operations, such as the M4A1 and K5, within realistically rendered virtual spaces like Jamsil Sports Complex and VIP Safe Houses.

Additionally, to allow customized tactical training according to the commander’s intent and the trainee’s abilities, the system provides a scenario editor, trainee monitoring, and training programs for facilities and structures at different levels.

Hwang Dae-sil, CEO of Sconex, stated, “The XR simulation training system developed and supplied by Sconex is significant as an alternative to enhance the global technological competitiveness of the domestic defense industry. We are pleased to contribute to this, and we will strive to conduct research and development that applies Sconex’s metaverse technology to various fields to create value.”

Meanwhile, following the launch of the immersive VR police training program ‘POLICE ONE’ in October last year, Sconex signed a contract in November to develop VR·AR training programs in the chemical sector, actively developing and supplying XR education and training content across various fields such as public safety, chemical safety, and firefighting.
