On the 6th (local time), the New York Post in the United States and The Mirror in the UK reported that Brazilian model Ligia Fazio (40) died due to complications from a butt lift procedure. Fazio, who was mainly active online, was an influencer with 940,000 Instagram followers.
She received the illegal butt lift procedure from an unlicensed, non-professional practitioner three years ago. Having already undergone several procedures, Fazio sought the illegal procedure after medical professionals advised against additional treatments.
Through the illegal procedure, Fazio had a substance mixed with industrial silicone injected into her buttocks. It was later reported that the substance spread throughout her body, causing infection problems.
Fazio was hospitalized for over three months to remove the substance. In an interview with local media in March last year, she said, "It feels like the injected substance is moving inside my body," and "I had to have my skin incised to remove both the silicone and PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate)."
Despite having all foreign substances removed, Fazio suffered a stroke due to side effects from the procedure. She was transported to a hospital last month but died during treatment.
"I want to be like Kim Kardashian"?This surgery people risk their lives for
Meanwhile, in Western countries, especially the United States, BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift) surgery is gaining huge popularity.
The reason the surgery includes 'Brazilian' in its name is said to be either because it creates dramatically large and round buttocks like Brazilian beauties or because the surgeon who first developed the procedure in the 1960s was Brazilian.
According to The New York Times and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, buttock augmentation is currently the fastest-growing plastic surgery procedure in the U.S. The number of surgeries has been steadily increasing by 2 to 5 times annually from around 2015 to 2021.
In May, an American female model who admired the figure of model Kim Kardashian died of cardiac arrest after receiving a silicone injection in her buttocks.
Experts warn that receiving silicone injections mixed with foreign substances through illegal methods can cause fatal health problems. In particular, if foreign substances are absorbed into the body, inflammation can occur, and parts of the body may become deformed. If the substances enter the bloodstream and block blood vessels, there is also a risk of cell necrosis.
