Stable Treatment of Sudden Increase in Sewage Volume in Dong and Buk Districts
The expansion project of the Ulsan Bangojin Sewage Treatment Facility, which significantly increased the daily processing capacity from 100,000 tons to 140,000 tons, has been completed.
On the 7th at 3 p.m., Ulsan City will hold the 'Bangojin Sewage Treatment Facility Expansion Project Completion Ceremony' at the Bangojin Water Quality Improvement Office on Mipo Industrial Road in Dong-gu.
About 100 people will attend the completion ceremony, including Kim Du-gyeom, Mayor of Ulsan, Kim Ki-hwan, Chairman of the City Council and city council members, Kwon Myung-ho, National Assembly member, Kim Jong-hoon, Dong-gu District Mayor, Dong-gu council members, environmental groups, and resident representatives.
The event will proceed in the order of progress report, commendation of meritorious persons, greetings, completion tape cutting, and facility tour.
The Bangojin Sewage Treatment Facility, completed in August 2005, had a daily sewage treatment capacity of 100,000 tons and has been treating sewage from Ulsan's Dong-gu and Buk-gu areas. However, due to recent urban development in parts of Buk-gu, the volume of sewage has rapidly increased, prompting the expansion project.
This project involved a total budget of 66.8 billion KRW, including 3.8 billion KRW in national funds and 63 billion KRW in city funds.
With this project, the Bangojin Sewage Treatment Facility's capacity was expanded by 40,000 tons per day, reaching a total sewage treatment capacity of 140,000 tons per day.
The main installed facilities include one sewage treatment equipment building, a flow regulation tank, primary and secondary sedimentation tanks, biological reactors, and ultraviolet (UV) disinfection tanks.
In particular, the facility applied the MLE sewage treatment method, which excels in nitrogen removal and produces less sludge, thereby enhancing operational efficiency.
An official from Ulsan City explained, "With the completion of the Bangojin Sewage Treatment Facility expansion project, stable treatment of sewage generated from various urban developments in Dong-gu and Buk-gu areas is now possible. This will not only resolve the overload of the existing Bangojin Sewage Treatment Facility but also contribute to improving the water quality of public water bodies."
