5G Subscribers Surpass 30 Million... LTE Also Advances Thanks to Altteul Phone

The number of domestic 5th generation (5G) mobile communication subscribers has surpassed 30 million. This is a record achieved four years after the commercialization of 5G in 2019.

According to wireless communication service statistics released by the Ministry of Science and ICT on the 6th, as of the end of April, the number of domestic 5G subscribers is 30,023,000. This is an increase of about 420,000 compared to the previous month. SK Telecom had the highest number of 5G subscribers at 14,345,000. KT and LG Uplus had 9,002,000 and 6,436,000 subscribers respectively. The number of 5G users on MVNOs was 239,000. The number of 5G subscribers exceeded 20 million in 2021.


Due to the advancement of MVNOs, the number of Long Term Evolution (LTE) subscribers also increased. The number of LTE subscribers was 46,311,000, an increase of 316,000 compared to the previous month. The number of LTE subscribers on MVNOs increased by 261,000 to 12,692,000 compared to the previous month.


Meanwhile, wireless traffic from 5G subscribers was 741,831 terabytes (TB), down 8.5% from the previous month (811,628 TB). The average traffic per 5G subscriber also decreased to 25.3 GB from 28 GB in the previous month.
