Changwon Special City Holds the 68th Memorial Day Ceremony

On the 6th at 10 a.m., Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam held the 68th Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony at three locations: Changwon Chung-hon Tower, Masan Chung-hon Tower, and Jinhae Chung-hon Tower, honoring the noble spirit of sacrifice of the patriotic martyrs and war heroes.

The ceremony was attended by about 3,000 people, including Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, members of the National Assembly, provincial and city council members, heads of institutions, organization leaders, heads of veterans' organizations, and bereaved families.

Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, is paying tribute to the patriotic martyrs at the Changwon Memorial Tower.

The Memorial Day ceremony was held under the slogan "We remember your sacrifice that protected the Republic of Korea." At 10 a.m., a nationwide siren sounded simultaneously, followed by a one-minute silent tribute to remember and appreciate the sacrifice and contributions of national merit recipients. The ceremony proceeded with flower offerings and incense burning for the war heroes, memorial speeches, recitation of commemorative poems, and the singing of the Memorial Day song.

To facilitate transportation for attendees, the city operated seven shuttle buses to the front of Changwon Chung-hon Tower in Daewon-dong, Seongsan-gu (where 1,203 memorial tablets are enshrined), Masan Chung-hon Tower in Sanho-dong, Masanhappo-gu (2,031 memorial tablets enshrined), and Jinhae Chung-hon Tower in Pungho-dong, Jinhae-gu (777 memorial tablets enshrined), showing respect to the bereaved families.

Mayor Hong said, "To ensure that the noble sacrifices of the patriotic martyrs and war heroes are not in vain, we will foster a social atmosphere where justice, principles, and honesty are trusted, and create a vibrant Changwon where citizens' dreams and hopes are realized. We will also strive to build a culture of respect for national merit recipients and their families."
