Yongsan-gu Completes Digital Twin Construction for Comprehensive Administrative Town

3D Spatial Information of the Old Government Building... Foundation for Developing Innovative Administrative Services Established

3D Building Guidance Devices... Installed in Front of the Comprehensive Civil Service Office, Health Center, and Dementia Safety Center

Expectations for Increased Administrative Efficiency and Resident Convenience

Yongsan-gu has established a digital twin of the Yongsan-gu Comprehensive Administrative Town. The purpose is to efficiently manage the government building and provide innovative public services to users.

A digital twin is a technology that creates a digital replica of real objects in a virtual space for monitoring, analysis, and prediction. Since November last year, the district has invested a total of 190 million KRW over five months to develop ▲3D spatial information management ▲civil service waiting status statistics ▲3D building guidance system.

The high-precision 3D spatial information is a business system built based on the design drawings and on-site surveys of the Yongsan-gu Comprehensive Administrative Town (hereafter referred to as the building). Based on the 3D stereoscopic space, innovative services such as evacuation simulation, workspace rearrangement, and metaverse building can be introduced in the future.

The civil service waiting status statistics system accumulates and visualizes real-time call and waiting data by civil service counters along with the digital twin. This system is expected to be used to improve the quality of civil services by analyzing major tasks during peak visiting hours.

The 3D building guidance screen helps users find their way by allowing them to touch the screen and select a route, showing a character moving in a 3D virtual space similar to the real environment, providing intuitive and vivid guidance.

A district official stated, “There are often cases where visitors to the building cannot find the entrance,” adding, “By scanning a QR code, users can receive directions on their mobile devices without installing a separate application.”

The building houses various facilities such as the health center, district council, and performance/exhibition halls, with multiple entrances on each floor from the 2nd floor main entrance down to the basement level 2.

The district installed building guidance devices on the 2nd floor at the Comprehensive Civil Service Office, on the 1st floor at the Health Center, and in front of the Dementia Safety Center on basement level 2. Features include enlarged text for the elderly and visually impaired, locations of automated external defibrillators within the building, and information on the attached parking lot, nearby public transportation, and cultural shuttle buses.

Kim Seonsu, Acting Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “The digital twin is a platform that will bring innovation to public services,” and added, “We will discover projects utilizing the digital twin to integrate digital technology into administration and enhance resident convenience.”
