SK Telecom has undertaken an organizational restructuring of its artificial intelligence (AI) division. The existing A. (Aidot) Business Promotion Team has been elevated to a business division, with plans to consolidate company-wide capabilities and accelerate global expansion.
On the 5th, SKT CEO Yoo Young-sang held a town hall meeting at T Tower in Jung-gu, Seoul, announcing the expansion and reorganization of the Aidot Business Promotion Team into the AI Service Division and the Global AI Tech Division.
SKT is set to officially launch the Aidot service next month. The AI Service Division will be responsible for integrating Aidot with mobile communication services. Kim Yong-hoon, Chief Aidot Service Officer (CASO), who has been leading the Aidot Promotion Team, will take charge.
The Global AI Tech Division is expected to develop AI platforms based on partnerships with global telecom companies and big tech firms, targeting the global market. This division will be led by Jung Seok-geun, Vice President of SK Telecom America (SKTA).
CEO Yoo has emphasized the transition to an "AI company" as a core value and is accelerating efforts to strengthen AI competitiveness. In this year's New Year's address, he stated, "Let us make 2023 the inaugural year for executing the vision of leaping forward and transforming into an AI company."
An SKT official said, "This afternoon, we held a CEO-led town hall meeting," adding, "At this meeting, CEO Yoo stressed the need to consolidate company-wide AI capabilities and pursue global expansion."
