Jeju Coast Guard Produces Comic on Safety Rules for Using Water Leisure Equipment

Jeju Coast Guard Station (Chief So Byung-yong) announced on the 5th that, with the peak summer season approaching and an expected increase in leisure visitors using water leisure equipment, they have produced and distributed the fifth story of water leisure safety in the form of a comic titled ‘Common Safety Rules When Using Water Leisure Equipment’ to prevent safety accidents.

As June arrives and the hot and humid summer weather sets in, the number of people visiting water play areas such as valleys, swimming pools, and beaches is increasing. Consequently, the number of leisure visitors using water leisure equipment like banana boats is also expected to rise, prompting the creation of a comic to promote marine safety accident prevention and safety rules before boarding water leisure equipment.

The safety rules before boarding water leisure equipment include sufficient warm-up exercises before entering the water, wearing safety gear such as life jackets and helmets, storing accessories like necklaces and earrings as well as mobile phones in a safe place, prohibiting alcohol consumption before using leisure equipment, and forbidding boarding for those under 14 years old without a guardian.

Businesses will also conduct continuous training and inspections with the Coast Guard to ensure a safe marine leisure sports culture without accidents by adhering to basic safety rules, understanding the characteristics of each equipment, and initial response in case of accidents during operation.

A Jeju Coast Guard official stated, “Special attention is required to prevent safety accidents during water leisure activities,” and added, “In case of an accident while using water leisure equipment such as banana boats, please report immediately to the relevant authorities.”
