Gwangju Metropolitan City held a Price Countermeasure Committee meeting on the 5th and reviewed and finalized the taxi fare increase plan.

The increase plan raises the base fare by 1,000 won to 4,300 won, while maintaining the current fare system for distance, time, and surcharge charges without changes.

Specifically, the base fare for mid-sized taxis will increase from 3,300 won to 4,300 won, and for deluxe taxis and large passenger cars, it will increase from 3,900 won to 5,100 won.

Previously, the two taxi associations, Gwangju Metropolitan City Taxi Transport Business Association and Gwangju Metropolitan City Private Taxi Transport Business Association, requested that the base fare for mid-sized taxis be raised from 3,300 won to 4,800 won, and for deluxe and large taxis from 3,900 won to 5,600 won.

After experiencing difficulties in reaching an agreement for a long time, Gwangju City held a forum on April 10th involving industry representatives, citizens, the city council, and experts to prepare this increase plan.

With the taxi fare increase plan passing the Price Countermeasure Committee review, it will be reported to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the increased fare system is scheduled to be applied starting July 1.
