Jeonnam Yeonggwang Green Onions are set to be exported to Hong Kong.
The county recently announced on the 5th that it held the 'Yeonggwang Green Onion Hong Kong Export Demonstration Loading Ceremony' at Baeksu-eup Office Square, attended by over 70 green onion industry stakeholders.
The purpose of this event was to conduct an export demonstration to receive market feasibility and preliminary verification such as 'quality verification, price formation, and preference survey' for the green onions cultivated by the county to be officially exported overseas. Based on the verified results, efforts will be made to improve the quality of Yeonggwang Green Onions and commercialize them according to consumer trends.

Additionally, the export products focused on quality control to overcome various issues such as green leaf discoloration, softening, and reduced storability that occur during the distribution process when green onions harvested from the county's production sites are exported overseas, ensuring consumers can purchase them fresh.
Furthermore, the loading ceremony was attended by officials from Yeonggwang County, Yeonggwang County Council, Rural Development Administration Horticultural Science Institute, Jeonnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services, and local agricultural cooperatives, showing high interest in raising awareness of Yeonggwang Green Onions' overseas expansion and exploring ways to establish an export foundation.
In his greeting, County Governor Kang Jong-man said, "Yeonggwang Green Onions have taken the first step into the Hong Kong market," adding, "Yeonggwang Green Onions are excellent in taste and quality, recognized not only domestically but also overseas, making this an important achievement for enhancing the county's agricultural competitiveness."
An official from the Rural Development Administration Horticultural Science Institute's Leafy Vegetable Research Center stated, "This event is the first outcome of the year-round production system establishment and research technical support agreement for green onion cultivation with Yeonggwang County," and added, "We will continue to collaborate to ensure the product is recognized not only in Hong Kong but also in numerous overseas markets."
