Gwangju Seo-gu Conducts Pump Operation Training Along Gwangjucheon Riverside

Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Ikang) announced on the 5th that it conducted a pump operation drill near Gwangcheon 2 Bridge along the Gwangju Stream to prepare for summer flood and wind disasters.

The drill was held with the participation of about 50 members of the Seo-gu Autonomous Disaster Prevention Group, simulating a situation where numerous houses in low-lying areas were flooded due to extreme rainfall caused by abnormal climate, and proceeded with mobilization and response training.

Seo-gu divided the local autonomous disaster prevention members by neighborhood into five teams to provide training on pump operation methods and the use of automatic inflatable sandbags for flood prevention to enhance disaster response capabilities that can be applied in real situations.

Inspections of a total of about 100 pumps at local neighborhood administrative welfare centers and safety-related departments were also completed, and in case of emergency, they plan to deploy and utilize them in flooded areas to carry out immediate drainage support activities.

A Seo-gu official said, “We will maintain an organic cooperation system between neighborhoods and the autonomous disaster prevention group to ensure swift and effective disaster response in preparation for upcoming heavy rain and typhoons.”

Meanwhile, starting with the summer natural disaster countermeasure briefing last month, Seo-gu is making every effort to ensure residents’ safe summer by establishing a standardized disaster situation response plan, promoting safety inspections of disaster prevention facilities and vulnerable areas.
