Youngest Deutsche Grammophon Artist Rozakocibi Collaboration
Renowned female conductor Anja Bilmeyer (45), who is gaining attention on the global stage, will meet domestic audiences for the first time.
The Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra announced on the 5th that it will present "Bilmeyer's Mahler Symphony No. 5" at Lotte Concert Hall in Songpa-gu, Seoul, on the 9th.
Born in Germany, Anja Bilmeyer is the first female chief conductor in the history of the Hague Orchestra and the second female chief conductor in the history of the Dutch music scene, actively performing on major European stages. She has collaborated with world-renowned orchestras such as the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, BBC Symphony, West German Radio Symphony Orchestra, and Birmingham Symphony, and is currently serving as the first female principal guest conductor of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra in Finland.
Mahler's Symphony No. 5 was composed starting in 1901 when Mahler was 41 years old and completed in the fall of 1902, the year he met and fell in love with Alma Schindler, who was 19 years his junior. The piece is structured in five movements and three parts, following the traditional German symphonic progression from "darkness to light." At the time of composition, Mahler was considering marriage to Alma, but the symphony reflects the worries, anxieties, and joys he experienced while overcoming a life-threatening health crisis.
Notably, the fourth movement, "Adagietto," became famous as the background music in director Visconti's 1971 film "Death in Venice." More recently, it was featured in director Park Chan-wook's film "Decision to Leave," making it familiar to domestic fans as well. Previously, the Seoul Philharmonic released an album under the world-renowned Deutsche Grammophon label in June 2015.
Daniel Lozakovich (22), known as the "21st-century violin prodigy," will make his debut with the Seoul Philharmonic as a soloist. He joined Deutsche Grammophon as the youngest exclusive artist at the age of fifteen and first visited Korea in 2017 for a concert commemorating the 100th anniversary of Isang Yun's birth. In a charity concert held in France this past January, he attracted worldwide attention by performing Paganini's "La Campanella," the original piece sampled in the songs "Blackpink" and "Shutdown."
In this concert, Daniel Lozakovich will perform Saint-Sa?ns' Violin Concerto No. 3, known for its elegant and rich melodies. Among the ten concertos composed by Saint-Sa?ns, this famous work was dedicated to the contemporary master Sarasate, known as the "Paganini of Spain," and premiered in early October 1880.
