Crime to Get Back at Ex
Airline Suffers Nearly 1.3 Billion Won in Damage
A flight attendant of an Argentine airline was caught by the police after secretly making a false bomb threat call claiming that explosives were on board her airline's aircraft. It was reported that the flight attendant committed this crime to get back at her ex-boyfriend and his girlfriend, who were on the flight.
According to local media including Clar?n on the 4th (local time), Daniela Carbone (47), a female flight attendant of Aerol?neas Argentinas (Argentina Airlines), was arrested by the airport police (PSA) on the 21st of last month at Buenos Aires Ezeiza International Airport for making a bomb threat against a company flight departing for Miami, USA.
The flight was scheduled to depart at 7:35 a.m. with 270 passengers and 12 crew members on board. However, just before departure, a call was received stating, "There are three bombs planted on this flight," and "Check the plane because it will explode into thousands of pieces." The caller used a voice modulation program to disguise their voice.
As a result, due to the security threat, the flight had to evacuate all passengers before takeoff. The airline reportedly suffered damages amounting to 1 million dollars (approximately 1.3 billion KRW) because of this.
The police identified Carbone, who had worked for the airline for over 20 years, as the suspect. It was reported that Carbone made the threat call because her ex-boyfriend, who was 10 years younger and had broken up with her two months earlier, and his new girlfriend were on the flight.
The ex-boyfriend, who had dated Carbone for over five years, was a flight attendant working on the flight, and his new girlfriend was a passenger. Carbone is said to have made the threat call to get back at them.
Colleagues expressed disbelief at Carbone's actions. They said Carbone was a diligent and excellent employee who had never taken a day off in her 25 years of service.
Meanwhile, the flight resumed operation nine hours later after the airport police conducted an explosive search.
