June 6th, 9:55 AM, City Hall Hosts 'The 68th Memorial Day Ceremony'
Moment of Silence for 1 Minute Starting at 10 AM, Attended by National Merit Recipients and Bereaved Families
Busan City will hold the 68th Memorial Day Ceremony to honor the sacrifice and contributions of national veterans at 9:55 a.m. on the 6th in the main auditorium on the first floor of City Hall.
The ceremony will be attended by Mayor Park Hyung-jun, Busan City Council Chairman Ahn Seong-min, Busan Superintendent of Education Ha Yun-su, as well as national veterans, their families, and about 500 key officials.
The ceremony will begin promptly at 10 a.m. with a moment of silence following the nationwide siren sound, and proceed in the order of ▲national anthem ▲recitation of a commemorative poem ▲memorial address ▲memorial performance by the Busan Municipal Arts Troupe ▲memorial chorus by the Busan Municipal Choir ▲and the singing of the Memorial Song.
A city official stated, “When the siren sounds for one minute starting at 10 a.m. on Memorial Day, it is not an air raid evacuation siren, so citizens are asked not to be alarmed but to stop what they are doing and join in the moment of silence with a solemn heart until the siren ends.”
He also announced, “This year, repair work is underway to maintain the Chung-hon Tower in Central Park, so for the safety of visitors, the tower will remain closed until the end of September.”
He added, “Instead of visiting the Chung-hon Tower, we hope that each household will raise the national flag at half-mast and visit memorial facilities such as the Liberation Memorial Hall, the United Nations Memorial Cemetery, or nearby war memorials to pray for the souls of the patriots and martyrs and to honor their heroic deeds, making this a meaningful Memorial Day.”
Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, “We bow our heads in eternal rest to honor the noble patriotic dedication of the martyrs who sacrificed to protect our country,” and added, “We will reflect on the meaning of the peace and prosperity we enjoy today, deepen our gratitude to the martyrs, and strive to foster a community atmosphere that inspires citizens’ patriotism.”
