In June, the Month of Patriots and Veterans, 2,572 National Merit Recipients Receive 50,000 KRW Memorial Day Consolation Money

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong District (right), is awarding a commendation to a meritorious person last year in commemoration of the Month of Patriots and Veterans.

Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) is stepping up support for those who sacrificed for the nation in observance of June’s Month of Patriots and Veterans.

First, the district will provide Memorial Day consolation money, newly established last year for national merit recipients, granting 50,000 KRW each to a total of 2,572 recipients. On Memorial Day, large buses will be arranged to facilitate transportation for national merit recipients and their families attending the commemorative ceremonies at Seoul and Daejeon National Cemeteries.

Additionally, six patriots and veterans who have widely promoted the spirit of national defense through strong dedication and volunteer service in the local community will be selected to receive commendations from the district mayor.

So far, the district has strengthened support allowances for national merit recipients. Last year, the monthly veterans’ honor allowance was increased from 30,000 KRW to 50,000 KRW, and the eligibility was expanded to include war veterans and those eligible for veterans’ compensation.

Moreover, 30,000 KRW consolation money is also provided during the Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays. Moving forward, the district plans to devise various measures to honor their spirit of sacrifice and continue sustained efforts for their respect and gratitude.
