‘2023 Seongbuk-gu Fair Trade Youth Living Experiment Launch Ceremony’ Held
Youth Ideas Applied to Revitalize Fair Trade in the Local Community
Seongbuk-gu Fair Trade Center Provides Time for Youth to Reflect on Sustainable Production and Consumption
Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) held the ‘2023 Seongbuk-gu Fair Trade Youth Living Experiment Launch Ceremony’ on the 27th of last month at the Seongbuk Art Hall in Seongbuk-gu Office, together with the Seongbuk-gu Fair Trade Center, the Sustainable Development Solutions Network Korea (SDSN Korea), and Korea University Ojeong Resilience Institute (OJERI).
The ‘2023 Seongbuk-gu Fair Trade Youth Living Experiment’ is a program where university students from 10 schools (▲Korea University ▲Sungshin Women’s University ▲Kangwon National University ▲Konkuk University ▲Kyonggi University ▲Dongguk University ▲Sejong University ▲Sookmyung Women’s University ▲Hankuk University of Foreign Studies ▲Hanyang University) gather to diagnose issues and potentials related to sustainable production and consumption and fair trade within the local community over three months and derive solutions.
At the launch ceremony, over 40 youth innovators from 9 teams participated. Education and group activities were conducted by Kim Young-gyu, Director of the Seongbuk-gu Fair Trade Center, and Kang Dong-ryeol, General Secretary of SDSN Korea.
Among the 9 participating teams, 3 teams will receive activity funds to carry out the projects proposed at the July idea competition. The 3 final selected teams will participate in the September project performance report meeting. They will deliver the voices of citizens and youth collected through direct project implementation.
Kim Young-gyu, Director of the Seongbuk-gu Fair Trade Center, said, “It is meaningful to carry out a project where youth come together and participate in Seongbuk-gu, which has many universities. We planned this project with the hope that they will think and act as members of the international community beyond the local area,” adding, “We look forward to fresh ideas that restore the sustainability of the region.”
Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, stated, “Seongbuk-gu will continue to take the lead in spreading awareness of fair trade, and we will create various opportunities to consider sustainable development directions by utilizing the innovative ideas of youth through this project.”
