Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced on the 2nd that it held a meeting with principals of 21 elementary schools in the district at the district office’s planning situation room to discuss a major educational innovation in Dongdaemun-gu.
At this meeting, participants deeply considered whether the current education system and environment are suitable for future generations and discussed the priorities and key areas for focused support in the district’s elementary education policies.
The district plans to implement focused support for elementary students’ ▲basic academic skills ▲literacy improvement ▲specialized math and English education through the 2024 educational innovation to create a ‘Dongdaemun-gu without private education expenses.’
Additionally, through the ‘School Emotional Library Creation Project’ promoted by the district, they aim to build sensory and creative libraries where students want to stay from their perspective, operate various programs utilizing the libraries, and develop these spaces as places for ‘expanding students’ thinking skills’ and ‘mental relaxation.’
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “I believe education is the most important investment for children’s future,” and added, “We will strive to improve the quality and professionalism of education in Dongdaemun-gu so that students can grow in a better educational environment.”
This year, the district has allocated a total education budget of 17.1 billion KRW, including ▲10 billion KRW for education expense subsidies ▲5 billion KRW for school meal support ▲300 million KRW for operating the education support center, and is running related projects.
In particular, the ‘education expense subsidies’ are among the highest levels in Seoul’s 25 districts, supporting customized projects for each school according to changes in the educational environment, future science education, and creative space innovation fields.
