Pohang City reported that about 35,000 visitors attended the ‘Gyeongsangbuk-do Youth Culture Festival’ held on the 3rd to encourage cultural and artistic activities among youth and promote mutual communication.
This event featured various booths such as the Youth Market Zone, Youth Career Zone, Eco-friendly Experience Zone, and Event Experience Zone, along with street busking and various events, offering diverse programs that resonated with young people. It provided a healing time for the youth who visited the venue and a unique experience of Pohang’s Youth Street for tourists.
The day’s event began with the ‘University Dance Club Championship,’ showcasing the dreams and passion of university students in the province, and heated up with the Youth Dream Concert.
The concert was held as a standing performance to allow young people to freely express their talents and energy, and featured a finale with unique stages of various genres including Younha, Signature, and Batu.
This large-scale street culture festival, held for the first time in five years since 2018, also revitalized the alley commercial district of Youth Street.
Youth Street was bustling with crowds, achieving significant economic effects through the festival. In particular, 20 stores in the main event area voluntarily cooperated by opening their restrooms free of charge to citizens visiting the festival, enhancing the completeness of the event by supporting the activation of the commercial district.
Additionally, with active cooperation from related organizations such as Pohang South and North Police Stations, South Fire Station, nearby schools, the Sangdae-dong community organizations, and the South and North Crime Prevention Associations, the event concluded safely without any accidents despite the large crowds.
Pohang City focused administrative efforts on hosting a safe festival by conducting two joint safety inspection meetings and on-site inspections with related organizations to ensure that young people could enjoy the festival safely.
A young participant said, “It was a meaningful and enjoyable time to experience various activities, gain career information, and enjoy the concert at the first youth festival held since COVID-19.”
Deputy Mayor Kim Nam-il stated, “We will spare no support to make Pohang a youth city where the values and dreams of young people are respected,” adding, “We will implement youth policies that serve as a ladder of hope so that young people can plan their future and realize their dreams in Pohang.”
