Yeongnam Technical High School announced on the 3rd that HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (CEO Han Young-seok) donated 20 million KRW to the school development fund on the 25th of last month to commemorate alumnus Kim Seong-su (67th class, graduated in 2021) winning the gold medal at the 2022 International Skills Olympics through industry-academia cooperation.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, the world’s number one company in shipbuilding and large engine sectors, specially hired Kim Seong-su, who won the gold medal in the steel structure fabrication category at the 2019 National Skills Competition.


After graduation, Kim has continued to hone his skills at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and became the first graduate from a vocational high school in the Daegu region to win a gold medal at the 2022 International Skills Olympics held in the United States.


HD Hyundai Heavy Industries regards Kim Seong-su’s valuable achievement as the result of linking Yeongnam Technical High School’s excellent foundational vocational training with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ industrial field technology. They delivered a development fund to Kim’s alma mater, Yeongnam Technical High School, and discussed future industry-academia cooperation plans with the school principal and officials.



At the donation ceremony, the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Skills Olympics team leader and instructors attended to deliver the development fund to Yeongnam Technical High School and discuss future industry-academia cooperation plans with the school principal and officials.


Team Leader Lee Sang of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries said, “Kim Seong-su’s achievements on the international stage were based on Yeongnam Technical High School’s outstanding vocational education and our company’s advanced industrial technology. We will continue close cooperation so that many students can realize their talents and dreams.”


Song Woo-yong, principal of Yeongnam Technical High School, said, “With the meaningful support from HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, we will actively support our students to develop solid vocational capabilities and grow into world-class technical talents.”
