Three Specialized Institutions for Promoting ICT
Workation, Increase in Resident Population and Revitalization of Local Economy
Busan City, the National Information Society Agency, the Korea Internet & Security Agency, and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency are joining forces to foster the local information and communication technology (ICT) industry through the activation of remote work (workation) at vacation spots.
On the 2nd at 2:30 PM, the city signed a business agreement titled “Fostering the Local Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Industry through the Activation of Remote Work (Workation) at Vacation Spots” with Korea’s leading ICT promotion agencies?the National Information Society Agency, the Korea Internet & Security Agency, and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency?at the International Protocol Room on the 7th floor of City Hall.
Representing the signing organizations, Lee Seong-gwon, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs, Hwang Jong-seong, President of the National Information Society Agency, Lee Won-tae, President of the Korea Internet & Security Agency, and Jung Seung, Deputy Director of the National IT Industry Promotion Agency, attended the ceremony and signed the agreement.
Through this agreement, Busan City will actively provide administrative support for the use of remote work (workation) at vacation spots to the partner organizations, while the organizations will cooperate in technology development and dissemination, attracting companies, and nurturing local talent to promote the development of the ICT industry in the Busan region.
Last year, the “Busan-type Remote Work (Workation) Project” was selected as an investment project under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s Regional Extinction Response Fund and is currently underway. This project has established hub centers and satellite centers focusing on three population-declining areas within Busan (Dong-gu, Seo-gu, Yeongdo-gu) and two population-interest areas (Jung-gu, Geumjeong-gu). Additionally, partner centers have been set up throughout the city to support workspaces, provide accommodation, and offer various tourism contents, aiming to revitalize the local economy by increasing the living population and ultimately attract external companies in the long term.
Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs Lee Seong-gwon stated, “Busan is an ideal location for remote work (workation) due to its harmonious blend of pristine natural environment and metropolitan infrastructure.” He added, “Various companies are utilizing remote work (workation), and among them, ICT-related companies show high interest, so the support of the three agencies is essential,” emphasizing the need for cooperation.
He continued, “I hope that by escaping the confined office space and working in a place where the sea and nature blend, people can experience a balance of work, life, and rest, releasing positive and creative energy that will lead to the long-term competitiveness of the participating organizations. I also ask for great support in fostering the local ICT industry.”
