Pohang City and the Pohang Sustainable Development Council held a commemorative event on the 2nd at Cheolgilsup Hanteo Madang under the theme "If You Act, Carbon Neutrality Becomes Visible!" to mark the 28th World Environment Day.

"‘If You Take Action, Carbon Neutrality Becomes Visible!’ … Pohang City Holds Event to Commemorate Environment Day" On the 2nd, Pohang City and the Pohang Sustainable Development Council held a commemorative event under the theme "If You Act, Carbon Neutrality Becomes Visible!" at Cheolgilsup Hanteo Madang to mark the 28th World Environment Day.

World Environment Day was established in 1972, and South Korea has designated it as a legal commemorative day since 1996, holding annual ceremonies.


The event began with a congratulatory performance by the "Me First, We Together" Eco Green Choir, followed by awards for contributors to local environmental conservation, reading of the carbon neutrality practice declaration by citizen representatives including parents and students, and a joint carbon neutrality practice performance.


Experience and promotional side events participated in by environmental organizations and institutions included ▲ Practicing carbon neutrality by riding bicycles together ▲ Education on other animals we must protect ▲ The rebirth of coffee grounds ▲ Reducing greenhouse gases in daily life ▲ Climate change photo exhibition ▲ Photo exhibition on the story of haenyeo coexisting with the sea ▲ Nature protection is our duty ▲ ESG practices with citizens ▲ Exhibition of zero-emission vehicles and charging infrastructure along with carbon neutrality tips directly from electric vehicle owners ▲ Marine plastic recycling artwork exhibition by Wolpo Elementary School ▲ and the Green Mobile Environmental Classroom by the Gyeongbuk Environmental Training Institute, all of which received great responses from citizens.


The Pohang Sustainable Development Council is currently promoting a bicycle commuting challenge simultaneously held in 11 cities nationwide from June 5 to 30. During the commemorative event, they conducted a mini bicycle parade to widely raise awareness among citizens using Cheolgilsup about the importance of activating ecological transportation.


Deputy Mayor Kim Nam-il said, "I hope this Environment Day serves as an opportunity to think about the importance of practicing carbon neutrality in daily life," adding, "Achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 is a national task and a challenge everyone must undertake, so I urge many people to actively strive and practice environmental conservation."
