Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Ikang) announced on the 2nd that it is recruiting participants for the youth reading club ‘1318 Seo-gu Leaders Club’ until the 20th.
This project was promoted to encourage continuous reading activities among youth and to provide an opportunity to form self-directed reading habits.
The recruitment target is youth aged 13 to 18 who are interested in reading activities, and it will be operated with about 50 members in five teams at Sangnok Library, Children’s Ecology Learning Library, Hwajeong 4-dong, Geumho 2-dong, and Dongcheon-dong Small Libraries.
The reading club will hold regular meetings at least once a month from next month until November, where participants will read the recommended youth book ‘One Book a Month’ and share their thoughts.
Seo-gu will provide books and activity spaces for club activities and dispatch mentor instructors who are reading experts to support various post-reading activity programs.
In addition, various programs supporting reading culture will be operated, such as the ‘Visiting 1318 Reading Culture Program’ which includes author invitation book talks for selected books, reading psychology for out-of-school youth, and picture book horticultural therapy, as well as the ‘Book Street Music Concert’ at the end of the year, which exhibits post-reading activity results and hosts lectures and performances by invited celebrities.
