On the 1st, the Busan Jungbu Police Station announced that they have booked and are investigating Ms. A, who kicked a foreign woman at a clothing store in the Nampo Station underground shopping mall in Jung-gu on the afternoon of the 25th of last month and then fled.
The incident first sparked controversy after being posted on the American online community 'Reddit.' On the 27th of last month, a foreign woman, Ms. B, known to work as a native English teacher in Korea, posted a message titled "I was kicked while browsing clothes in Busan." Along with the post, she attached CCTV footage showing the assault.
In the released video, Ms. B was kicked in the leg by Ms. A while browsing displayed clothes. Ms. A then left the store, and a shocked Ms. B lowered her head. Another middle-aged woman, presumed to be the store owner, approached Ms. B and patted her shoulder.
Ms. B's post received about 3,000 likes and over 550 comments, gaining significant attention, but it has since been deleted.
Overseas netizens responded with comments such as "The woman should be found and severely punished," "A terrible incident," "I don't understand why the woman suddenly assaulted her," and "The Korean police need to take action."
News1 reported a police official stating, "Ms. A admits to the assault. It is presumed that she assaulted the foreigner due to a mental illness." Meanwhile, the victim, Ms. B, reportedly sought help at a nearby subway station office and, with the assistance of staff, reported the incident to the police.
